Permanent makeup is a perfect way to simplify your beauty routine and enhance your natural features. Whether you’re getting microbladed brows, permanent eyeliner, or lip blush, proper preparation is essential to achieving beautiful, long-lasting results. At Utopia Salon, we want you to feel confident yet comfortable and fully prepared for your permanent makeup appointment. We offer a range of permanent makeup services at our salon, so each client can get the services they desire. Use this guide to ensure the best possible experience and results when you visit our salon.
1. Schedule Your Appointment Thoughtfully
Before booking, consider your schedule and upcoming events. Permanent makeup is a process, and healing time is essential. While results are visible immediately, redness, swelling, or slight flaking may occur during the first few days. We recommend scheduling your appointment at least two weeks before vacations, weddings, or special events to allow ample healing time and for color to settle.
Also, keep in mind that touch-up appointments are often needed to perfect your results. Planning ensures you won’t feel rushed and can fully enjoy your transformation!
2. Avoid Certain Treatments and Products Beforehand
To protect your skin and prevent complications, it’s essential to pause specific treatments before your appointment. Avoid chemical peels, laser treatments, microneedling, or intense exfoliation near the treatment area for at least two to four weeks prior. These treatments can make your skin more sensitive and impact pigment retention.
You’ll also want to stop using retinol, vitamin A, and exfoliating acids in the area about seven to ten days before your appointment. Healthy, calm skin provides the best canvas for permanent makeup.
3. Be Mindful of Medications and Caffeine
Certain medications and lifestyle factors can increase bleeding and sensitivity during your appointment. If possible, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements. This includes medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E, taken 24–48 hours beforehand (unless prescribed by your doctor).
Caffeine and alcohol should also be avoided for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Both can increase swelling and bleeding, which may affect pigment placement and comfort during the procedure.
4. Arrive with Clean Skin
On the day of your appointment, arrive at the treatment area with clean skin, free of makeup, oils, or lotions. This helps reduce the risk of irritation and ensures the pigment adheres properly.
If you’re coming in for eyebrow services, avoid waxing, threading, or tinting your brows for at least one week beforehand. Allowing your natural hair growth to guide the shape helps your artist create the most flattering, customized results.
5. Know What to Expect During the Appointment
Understanding the process can help ease nerves and set realistic expectations. Your permanent makeup appointment at Utopia Salon will begin with a detailed consultation. Your artist will discuss your goals, assess your skin, map out the design, and select a pigment that complements your features and skin tone.
Topical numbing agents are used to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. While some sensations may be experienced, most clients find the experience very manageable. The appointment typically lasts two to three hours, depending on the service.
6. Plan for Aftercare and Healing
Aftercare is just as important as preparation. Make sure you’ve reviewed your artist’s after-care instructions in advance and have any recommended products ready at home. The healing process of permanent makeup can take weeks, so make sure you are ready. You may need to avoid excessive sweating, swimming, sun exposure, and makeup on the treated area during the healing period.
It’s normal for the color to appear darker initially and soften over time. Flaking and dryness may occur, but avoid picking or scratching the area to prevent patchy results.
7. Come Relaxed and Confident
Permanent makeup is a collaborative process, and your comfort is our priority! Eat a light meal before your appointment, stay hydrated, and wear comfortable clothing. Bring reference photos if you have a specific look in mind, but trust your artist’s expertise to customize the design to your facial structure.
At Utopia Salon, our goal is to enhance your natural beauty while ensuring you feel informed, supported, and excited every step of the way!
